I was 9 years into my career with a thriving private practice as an obstetrician gynecologist.
I had made it (or so I thought,) and yet I was far from happy or fulfilled. In fact, I was exhausted; it was as though I was just barely keeping my head above water. My stress level was so high, I couldn’t even get my brain to shut off.
I felt trapped in the rat race of life and no matter what I did, I couldn’t keep up.
Sure, I was able to pull together and perform, like I had been trained to. From the outside you would never know I was struggling. But inside, I felt like I was not being the kind of mother I wanted to be, I did not have the energy to spend any quality time with my husband, nor did I have time or energy to maintain friendships. I was working 70-90 hours a week, trying to be the best doctor, mom, wife, daughter, sibling, and friend I knew…but I couldn't hold it all together. I had the honor and privilege of caring for so many incredibly amazing women and their families…but I had given up myself and my own family.
I pushed and fought and sacrificed so much to get to this finish line, to get to the place I wanted to be so badly, the place that I thought I could be happy and fulfilled. The place I knew I would be able to help so many, the place I knew, if I could just get there, I would be able to support my family and we could enjoy the life we had worked so hard to create.
I was 16 years old when I had my first son.
I made it my mission to love him and protect him and provide for him no matter what. So, I finished high school, married my high school sweetheart (aka my baby daddy and most incredible human,) we had our second son, #boymom, completed medical school, and created a thriving OBGYN practice. I didn’t care what it took to get there, I put the blinders on and just started moving forward.
The reality was, while working so hard to “succeed”, somewhere along the line I had given away my power.
I forgot to take care of myself. I forgot that if I did not take care of myself and make my priorities actual priorities, I would never be able to care for others the way I wanted to; and I certainly wouldn’t be able to have the impact in this world I wanted to.
I lost track of me, my intuition.
I put the non-negotiables for my life on the back burner and while I was busy focusing on what needed to get done to “succeed”, I stopped paying attention to what I needed. My food choices were horrible, I did not drink much water because who has time to pee. I stopped working out because it felt selfish. I had stopped spending quality time with my kids and husband because there was always one more thing I needed to finish or I was just plain exhausted. And really, if I wasn’t spending time with my family, how could I even think of spending time with friends.
I forgot that my mission here was not just to try to survive, my mission here was to make a difference and THRIVE.
It was at this point, when my exhaustion and stress level were at their peak, that I realized nothing would change unless I did.
I hired a High Performance Coach…which ended up being an absolute game changer!
I learned to listen to my intuition again. I remembered I could create my life the way I wanted it to be, I just had to choose differently. I then became a Certified High Performance Coach through The High Performance Institute, so that I could help others create the life that they wanted. I studied functional medicine with the Institute for Functional Medicine and began giving my body what it needed to perform at its best.
My energy returned, I was able to concentrate and focus. I felt better than I had felt since I was 15 years old!
Seriously, I had no idea how horrible I felt until I felt great again. I knew if I could feel this good, I had to help other women feel this way too!
Now, I help women build a strong mind, strong body, and strong connection so that you too can live the truest, highest expression of yourself as a human being; so that we can contribute, accomplish and achieve whatever we want to in this world!
